Photovoltaic (PV) modules operate at peak efficiency at 25 degree celsius. In hot climates, panel temperatures can surge past 80 degree celsius, causing efficiency to plunge drastically every 1 degree celsius temperature rise drops efficiency by 0.5%, resulting in an overall 8-10% power loss. Cooling technologies minimize these thermal losses, optimize heat dissipation, and maximize overall solar yield.
This brief reviews active and passive cooling techniques—including heat pipes, jet cooling, phase change materials, and water circulation—comparing them across performance, cost, and environmental criteria. Findings reveal that Natural Water Ventilation (NWV) and Water Cooling (WC) offer the highest efficiency, lowest environmental impact, and best commercial feasibility through closed-loop recycling.
